Newborn Session Baby Emma

I'm so very behind on editing and posting my pictures. Here's baby Emma that I took about a month ago. She's very sweet and tiny and beautiful. Sorry my "v" key stopped working mid way while editing so some say my name and others don't.

What an awesome day!!!!!!

Ok I know this is as bad as posting a Wordless Wednesday with words, but I don't care, I'm going to post a post with no photos on a photography blog. I want to remember this day because it was probably the most awesome experience I've ever had up to this time in my life.

Today our day started with a list of things to do while here in Washington State on vacation. On this list was seeing a waterfall, going through Forks and La Push while giving a little shout out to Twilight, visiting the Hoh Rainforest and ending up a Rialto Beach. Well we had accomplished most of that and wound up at La Push for what I thought would be just a drive thru. Well as it turned out, we stumbled upon a Native American ceremony that was taking place. That in and of itself was just awesome. They had singing and native dancing. How cool is that to get to see people expressing a ceremony that they have been doing for hundreds of years. Well this ceremony was to celebrate the welcoming of the gray whales to this area. The people of La Push have always been a whaling community, so this is a very big deal for them to be honoring the whales.

My moms was getting restless and wanted to move on, but for some reason I kept on stalling. The they announced that they were going to gift the whales with some salmon that one of the ancestors of the old whaling tribe was going to take out on a raft into the ocean. Me knowing how darn cold this water actually is, I was compelled to see this poor boy wade out into the water to offer up this huge salmon fillet. They entered the water, cringing at the cold they must have been feeling while having the whole tribe offer up song as encouragement.

I got my mom to give me a lift up so I could get a good view up on this huge driftwood log to watch the whole thing from a good vantage point. It was all very exciting in it's own right but then God smiled upon my poor human heart and the most beautiful thing happened. It almost brought me to tears, but as any of you know, I have a HUGE soft spot in my heart for animals and nature. There standing upon that log watching this tribal ceremony the whales appeared. I use the plural because there was certainly more than one. Off in the distance out of nowhere, 3 orca (Shamu) dorsal fins appeared. They just would surface and then disappear back into the water. That might not seem like a big deal, but keep in mind that they aren't even supposed to be in this area this time of year. Of course, I didn't have my camera for this experience, but I have the memories and that's all that really matters to me. They stuck around for a bit and eventually swam off to do their own thing. Then while standing upon that log watching the bay, I saw the clear sign of a whale blowing out air. Heck ya, more whales! But these were bigger boys than just Shamu. These were Gray Whales. BIG whales, about 45' whales. And here they were in this bay, just chilling watching the festivities. Ended up, there were 2 of them. This is not my first experience with Gray Whales because we saw 4 of them the other day while whale watching. But here we spent close to 60 bucks to have that experience to see them and this was all for FREE!!!! It was the most beautiful and well timed event of my life. It is the type of thing I will tell my kids about and something that will stay with me forever. I couldn't have been more happy if I stumbled upon the cast of Twilight filming and then went for a beer (or soda) with the cast. This was so awesome and I have to give a big shout out to God for letting me experience this. It's so easy to see his great work in something so pure as this!

This reminded me of the movie Whale Rider. If you haven't seen it, it's a great flick that I totally recommend. Life is great, and this experience will carry me through the slumps that life seems to bring some times.
